The Family Practice Bristol is an osteopathy and complementary health centre set up by the Hounsfield family in the heart of Bristol. We work as a team and combine osteopathy and complementary therapies to give people a wholly individual healthcare and treatment strategy.

We are a friendly and professional team, dedicated to working with each other and with you and your body.

We aim to give the support and guidance you need to stimulate the healing process and to address the causes and not just the symptoms. We will spend the time to listen to you and your body and will deliver a tailored and integrated approach.

Most people come to see osteopaths because they are in physical pain. Backaches, neck pain and sporting injuries are the most common complaints that osteopaths treat. But we treat so much more than that…

Please feel free to explore the site and learn a bit more about the family practice, who we are and what we do.

Osteopathy

We are trained as Primary Healthcare Practitioners and are often a first point of call for patients in pain. As the first complimentary medicine to obtain government recognition, osteopaths are governed and regulated by the General Osteopathic Council.

Osteopathic medicine is the diagnosis and treatment of the body in its entirety. We are trained to think and treat holistically, where the pain is, isn’t necessarily where the cause is. To uncover those issue, we will take a detailed case history, including past history as well as the reason you are seeking help now.

Having taken a history, we will advise you of your therapy plan before treatment. Our examinations are based on orthopaedic and neurological tests as well as tests of movement and strength which give an indication the parts of your body involved. We may also feel it necessary to refer you to have an Xray or MRI to improve our diagnosis

We normally proceed to osteopathy treatment which may involve gentle articulation movements, soft tissue manipulation and/or gentle cranial osteopathic techniques. Patients may then be given further advice on posture, prevention and exercises. All techniques are chosen for each patients individual needs. Out treatments are gentle but effective.
